Hiking, Camping and Cancellations....

As an Eagle Scout I am fairly experienced when it comes to camping out and struggling against the elements. Yet before every Boy Scout campout my father, Dr. Edward T. Gordon, would challenge me as to why in the world would I want to go spend the night in a tent, in the rain (or snow) and sleep on the ground. It was hard to explain why I thought that this was more fun than going with my parents to our home in Cape Cod for the weekend but kids will be kids I suppose. For years, my daughter Leah has been asking for me to take her camping and finally this past weekend I made good on a promise that was over 10 years old....

My plan was to fly to Atlanta and take her for a 2 night camping trip along the 23 mile Pine Mountain Trail that is part of FDR State Park south of Atlanta. I liberated her from the United States Naval Academy at 12:30 PM on Friday and we were on our way to Atlanta via Southwest Airlines out of BWI Airport.
